latestnews1947: The death toll in an earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale that struck China's Sichuan province has gone up to 20 with 431 injured, authorities said on Thursday.

Among the injured, 18 are in serious condition, according to the provincial government authorities.

Seventeen of the seriously injured have been transferred to the cities of Chengdu and Mianyan for treatment, reports Xinhua news agency.

More than 50,000 tourists, including 126 foreigners have been evacuated following the quake, which struck Jiuzhaigou county on Tuesday night at a depth of 20 km.

Jiuzhaigou is a popular tourist destination in the mountains on the eastern edge of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. 

It is part of the Aba prefecture and is known for its ethnic minority communities, mountainous landscape, and stunning scenery.

200 Indian students marooned in Houston floods

latestnews1947:  Two hundred Indian students of the University of Houston have been marooned in floods in the wake of tropical storm Harvey causing heavy rains and flooding in America's fourth largest city. Two Indian students are in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said on Monday. "@CGHoust has informed me that 200 Indian students at University of Houston are marooned. They are surrounded by neck deep water," Sushma Swaraj tweeted. "We made efforts for delivery of food but US Coast Guard did not allow as boats were required for rescue operations," she said. Stating that Indian Consul General in Houston Anupam Ray was organising the rescue operations, Sushma Swaraj said in a separate tweet: "Indian students Shalini and Nikhil Bhatia are in ICU.
